Calvin and Hobbes’ creator Bill Watterson won the 2014 Grand Prix, the top prize at the 41st annual Festival International de la Bande Desinée in Angoulême, France.

Watterson beat out finalists Alan Moore and Katsuhiro Otomo to become the second American winner in four years. (Art Spiegelman won the prize in 2011.) The winners of the Grand Prix prize are traditionally comic book artists rather than strip cartoonists, so that makes us doubly proud of Watterson’s achievement.
