Steven Appleby is one of Britain’s best-loved cartoonists, whose keen sense of the turmoil of fear and obsession that lies beneath the calm and respectable exterior of most of us has made his weekly Guardian strip perhaps Britain’s favourite fridge pin-up. His character Captain Star, the Greatest Hero Any World Has Ever Known, achieved cult status in Britain, Germany and many other countries before turning into the animated television series starring Richard E Grant and Adrian Edmondson.

Steven has published many books, including the classic ‘Men The Truth’, ‘Normal Sex’ and ‘Secret Thoughts’. In addition to his weekly Guardian strip he publishes a weekly cartoon in the Sunday Telegraph and a monthly cartoon in the parenting magazine Junior.

Steven’s paintings, objects and designs have been the subject of many exhibitions. His outlook on life was the theme of two series of the BBC Radio 4 comedy ‘Steven Appleby’s Normal Life’, and he is currently developing a new animated television series for children with Indie Kids International.
